Support for Carers

The Carer Peer Support Group meet at the Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre, Lawson: the second Wednesday afternoon of each month 1:30pm to 3.30pm. For carers of a person who is frail aged or an adult (eighteen years or more) with a disability. We offer a carer peer support group as social support to carers.

The group is open to all carers who live in the Blue Mountains local government area.

This is primarily a peer support group with a professional facilitator who organises and attends the meetings.  Guest speakers are often invited and attend for part of a meeting to share information.  The emphasis, however, is on social interaction and support amongst the group members themselves.

Each year group members are invited to a mid-year event and also a Christmas lunch.  Both of these activities are subsidised through the Neighbourhood Centre.

Costs, arrangements and other details
The service is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health.  The Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre provides the service as part of its Lawson Volunteer Home Visitors Program. There is no cost to attend the Carer Peer Support Group.
